The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) has confirmed that chairman Steve Simon will step down in December after 10 years in the role.
Simon, who joined the WTA in 2015, informed the board of directors of his planned retirement last year. To ensure a smooth transition, the board will now begin a comprehensive selection process for the chair position, supported by global executive search firm Elevate Talent.
Last year, the WTA implemented a new leadership structure to separate the roles of chair and chief executive, with the chair to focus on providing effective governance, as well as setting the long-term vision and strategy for the WTA. The chair will also represent the WTA at a global level and address the major issues affecting the sport.
